V8 Supercars star Will Davison returns to Ford

Trading places...Will Davison is super-confident after making the move back to Ford.
PRODIGAL son Will Davison has promised Ford fans he will fill the void left by 2010 V8 Supercars champion James Courtney's defection to Holden after yesterday confirming his alignment with Ford Performance Racing.
In a parting shot at his former HRT garage, the 28-year-old said that for the first time he now had the team to win the title, racing alongside Mark Winterbottom.
While Courtney's switch to a Commodore has grabbed all the headlines, Davison said he plans to make it painfully obvious when the season starts on February 11 in Abu Dhabi that Ford won the driver recruitment war.
He was in Tamworth yesterday to promote his return to Ford following three years with Holden, officially lifting the lid on one of the worst-kept secrets in Australian motorsport.
"They're the benchmark for car performance so it was a very easy decision," said Davison, who replaces Steven Richards in the No. 6 Falcon.
"Performance is the No. 1 thing that truly matters.
"It's everything.
"I've never been more excited entering a season. FPR are on the up and up."
Despite a miserable 2010, when he was riddled with mechanical failures and finished the championship as the No. 22 driver, he said his pre-season training with the factory-backed team in Melbourne had him supremely confident of snagging a maiden championship.
"I believe I can go one better," he said of his career-best runner-up series in 2009.
"With this team I can't see any reason why not."
While he said he enjoyed his time at HRT and left in amicable circumstances, he could not hide his preference for the FPR team.
"This is a real team sport," he said.
"This is not a team of champions. It's a champion team. It's a very close-knit team. FPR will be the benchmark. Frosty and I can be the top two. We're hungrier than anyone."
He will get his first chance to back up his bold words on January 29 at an official testing day at Eastern Creek ahead of the Middle East trip.
